Protractor what can I say. I was a single terminal "PACE" user for over 11 years and I thought it was great particularly when compared with doing handwrites.  When we went to an electronic system it was a great improvement compared to doing everything manually, mostly in the inventory control and customer tracking and history, the added control and ability to sell more accurately improved our business by about 15%.  This was huge but it was in 1994 and was we all know the times have changed. 

Last year our company went from "Pace" to Protractor and we have seen the same kind of massive improvements we saw when we went from a handwrite system to an electronic system.   We went "live" on Protractor June 01, 2005 and we haven't look back. The changes have been truly phenomenal. I just can't imagine working on a DOS system with dot matrix printers.  By the way my sales in June 06 were compared to June 05 up 20%. Need I say more.

I started using Activant 10-15 days before June, the free trial month.  June & July both have been my best months since I opened the shop, 16 yrs ago!  Approx doubling sales both months. This month is already looking the same..  I am amazed at the data in the Activant  and Mitchell databases, esp the OE service schedules. Although without having a shop the programs sure would be pretty boring.

I feel the $249/mth cost is paid for in about 10 minutes by selling ONE or two customers an extra couple needed jobs.

We have been using Protractor for just over a year and it has made our life simpler.  Accurate estimates can be completed in half the time it use to take, and our customers love the fact we can e-mail an estimate for approval.  The ability to look-up and order parts on-line has eliminated the "please hold" at the parts store.  We never loose returns or cores due to the return/core bin feature.

Our accountant is MUCH MUCH happier than he was with the reporting functions that Pace had. The general ledger functions are a huge improvement over what we had to deal with before. We have been using mini-mainframes and PC's for more than 20 years. After using Pace of Canada for the last eight of those years we are switching to Protractor. It's faster, easier and allows us to do two things simultaneously without any loss of time. I really enjoy being able to access the labor guide and parts catalog directly from the work order, and then having the information transferred right onto the work order.
